- NEW: Colourful Minds Report on Seni’s LawOur collaborators at Colourful Minds have produced a new report in response to the government’s consultation on Seni’s law. The report set out to review the statutory guidance for Seni’s law, in order to prevent the inappropriate restrictive practice and to improve transparency and accountability around use of force in mental health units. This draws on work from two focus groups: one which involved people with lived experience and another with inpatient mental health staff. You can download the full report below. - Help implement Seni’s LawOlaseni Lewis was a young, Black British man who had recently completed his master’s degree at Kingston University. After his first episode of severe mental illness in 2010, he was admitted to the Bethlem hospital, where he later died after being physically restrained by up to 11 police officers. A new piece of legislation aims to prevent future tragedies like this. The Mental Health Units (Use of Force) Bill, also known as Seni’s Law, received royal assent in 2018.
